Beyşehir resident discovers giant morel mushroom
A nature enthusiast, Sadi Çetin, discovered a remarkably large morel mushroom in the Beyşehir district of Konya, Turkey. Following recent rainfall, Çetin found the specimen while foraging in the Çetmi neighborhood.
Çetin brought the mushroom to a local coffeehouse, where it became a point of interest for residents who gathered to examine and photograph the find. While morel mushrooms, also known locally by various names such as 'umbrella mushroom' or 'grandfather's cap,' can reach diameters of up to 80 centimeters under ideal conditions, Çetin noted that he had never encountered one of this size before.
Following the discovery, Çetin issued a warning to other foragers, emphasizing that not all mushrooms found in nature are edible. He advised caution when encountering species that look similar and urged people not to consume any mushroom unless they are certain of its identity.
