Large mushroom discoveries in Turkey
Overview
In October 2026, residents in different regions of Turkey reported finding unusually large mushrooms while foraging.
In the Beyşehir district of Konya, Sadi Çetin discovered a giant morel mushroom in the Çetmi neighborhood following recent rainfall. The specimen drew significant local interest at a coffeehouse. Çetin cautioned other foragers to be careful, noting that not all wild mushrooms are edible and warning against consuming species without certain identification.
Later in the month, in the Pınarhisar district of Kırklareli, 69-year-old Necati Baycan found a massive umbrella mushroom in the Kurudere village forest. The specimen reached approximately 40 centimeters in height, making it too large for his foraging basket. Baycan attributed the mushroom’s size to high moisture levels from a nearby waterway.
