Colombia earthquake relief receives millions in celebrity and government aid

Following a magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck near San José del Palmar in Colombia's Chocó department on August 10, various international figures and organizations have pledged significant aid. Beyoncé, through Parkwood Entertainment, has announced a $1 million personal donation to provide food and housing supplies, with funds being channeled through Food for the Poor and World Central Kitchen.

Other major contributions include Shakira's $1.25 million commitment to rebuild ten schools and the Universidad Tecnológica del Chocó. Karol G and her Con Cora Foundation have pledged $1.2 million, while the Colombian organization Corona has announced an investment of $50 billion pesos to support housing and community infrastructure recovery.

Governmental and large-scale aid includes Canada providing over $1.4 million USD in humanitarian assistance. The earthquake has resulted in at least 331 deaths, 4,439 injuries, and 240 missing persons, with thousands of homes destroyed across multiple departments.
