Dudamel concerts & Miami benefit for Venezuela

Overview

In late June 2026, twin earthquakes (magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5) devastated Venezuela, killing about 5,000 people, injuring over 16,700 and leaving roughly 18,000 homeless. Conductor Gustavo Dudamel halted a planned Spanish tour to focus on relief work with UNDP and the CAF, promising to resume Barcelona performances when conditions improve. In early July, he announced a benefit concert with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl for 23 August, titled “A Concert for Venezuela.” The orchestra pledged a $50,000 donation, and all ticket proceeds will support a recovery fund jointly administered by UNDP and CAF. This will be his final appearance as music and artistic director of the LA Phil before moving to the New York Philharmonic. On 14 July, UNDP and Dudamel launched a global fundraising drive at UN headquarters, partnering with the Pan American Health Organization, CMN, Maestro Cares, TelevisaUnivision, PIMIENTO Entertainment, iHeartRadio and Spotify. The campaign added a halftime performance by the New York Philharmonic at the FIFA World Cup 2026 final. On 19 July, during the final at MetLife Stadium, Dudamel conducted a joint ensemble of the New York Philharmonic and about twenty musicians from Venezuela’s Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra. The show, the first FIFA‑organized halftime concert, featured pop stars such as Madonna, Shakira, BTS and Justin Bieber, highlighted the June 24 earthquakes, and directed additional support through FIFA’s Global Citizen Education Fund, which aims to raise $100 million for education and sport in vulnerable communities. A televised benefit concert, “Unidos Por Venezuela,” is set for 16 August at Miami’s Kaseya Center. Organized by CMN, Maestro Cares, TelevisaUnivision and PIMIENTO Entertainment with iHeartRadio and Spotify support, the event will showcase a Latin‑music lineup including Chayanne, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Marc Anthony, Ricardo Montaner, Feid, Chino y Nacho and many others.
