Bhatkal Taluk Hospital to receive dedicated mother and child care block

Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Minister U. T. Khader announced that a dedicated Mother and Child Care (MCC) block will be established at Bhatkal Taluk Hospital. The new facility aims to improve healthcare services and alleviate pressure on the existing hospital, which currently faces overcrowding. While the hospital has a sanctioned capacity of 100 beds, it frequently accommodates more than 130 patients.

The proposed MCC block will focus on managing high-risk cases involving pregnant women and newborns, providing maternity and newborn care under one roof. According to government norms, a separate unit is considered when a hospital records more than 100 deliveries per month. The government is also evaluating increasing the hospital's overall bed capacity to address the growing patient load in the coastal region between Kumta and Baindur.
