Bhola: Child missing in Meghna River after speedboat waves

A five-year-old boy named Md. Shamim went missing in the Meghna River in Bhola on Thursday morning. The incident occurred around 8:30 AM in the Majherchar area of Kachia Union, Bhola Sadar.

According to family members and witnesses, the child was bathing near the riverbank with his mother during high tide. While the mother had briefly stepped away to change clothes, a high-speed police speedboat traveling from the Elisha launch ghat created large waves that swept the child into the river.

Local residents and relatives conducted initial search efforts but were unable to locate the boy. Syed Ashiqur Rahman, the Officer-in-Charge of Elisha River Police Station, stated that a team is heading to the location to lead the rescue operation. Authorities have also detained a fisherman involved in illegal net fishing during the ongoing security operations.
