Water accidents in the Meghna River

Overview

Incidents involving missing persons and fatalities have occurred in the Meghna River.

In mid-September, a five-year-old boy went missing in the Majherchar area of Bhola after waves from a high-speed police speedboat swept him into the river while he was bathing. Local police initiated rescue operations following the disappearance.

Later in the month, a trawler carrying 13 passengers capsized near Sonargaon, Narayanganj, due to sudden stormy winds and large waves. One woman was confirmed dead, and four family members remained missing. Search efforts involving the Coast Guard, naval police, and the Fire Service and Civil Defense utilized laser cameras to navigate difficulties caused by strong currents and deep water.
