Bhopal food safety officials raid major hotels over hygiene violations
Food safety authorities conducted surprise inspections at ten prominent hotels and restaurants in Bhopal, uncovering significant hygiene and safety violations. During the raids, officials discovered expired chicken and fish at Hotel Sayaji, as well as insect-infested lentils and kidney beans at Tortoise Hospitality.
Inspectors identified several systemic issues, including the improper storage of vegetarian and non-vegetarian items in the same freezers, lack of pest control, and inadequate kitchen cleanliness. In some instances, such as at Sakshi Dhaba, inspections were prompted by consumer complaints regarding the potential use of unauthorized meat types.
Authorities seized various food samples, including mutton and paneer, for laboratory testing. Further legal action will be taken under the Food Safety and Standards Act based on the results of these tests.
