Bhopal Municipal Corporation issues over 1,000 notices in crackdown on illegal commercial units

The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) has intensified a city‑wide crackdown on illegal commercial activities operating from residential buildings. As of August 2, it issued 1,018 notices, with 429 of them in the Arera Colony and Bawadiya Kalan neighborhoods.

City planner Anil Tatwade said surveys are being conducted across all localities to verify land‑use permissions, and any non‑compliant establishments will be sealed in accordance with Supreme Court guidelines. Around 100 police officers were deployed alongside the municipal anti‑encroachment squad to ensure the operation proceeds smoothly.

Deputy Commissioner Bhuvan Gupta emphasized that the drive follows Supreme Court directives and that traders who voluntarily halted operations will not face sealing, while those that reopened after the teams left are being targeted. The BMC plans to continue the survey and sealing effort city‑wide.
