Bhotekoshi floods in Nepal leave 1,395 dead and over 5,000 missing

The death toll from the Bhotekoshi floods in Nepal has reached 1,395, with 5,130 people still reported missing, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).

Among the missing are 607 foreign tourists from 34 different countries who were traveling to destinations such as Kailash Mansarovar, Gosaikunda, and Mustang. The Department of Tourism reported that 189 Indian nationals are among the unaccounted-for tourists. Other missing nationalities include citizens from the United States, Malaysia, Ukraine, China, Australia, Latvia, the United Kingdom, and Canada, among others.

Rescue efforts have resulted in 13,737 people being saved so far, including 310 foreign nationals. Search and rescue operations have been intensified by security agencies, local governments, and various organizations to locate the missing and provide relief to those displaced. The NDRRMA is currently working to identify recovered bodies, including through DNA testing.
