Bhuka Bhuka Cultural Center to launch in Maputo

Mozambican writers Aurélio Furdela and Sangare Okapi have announced the upcoming launch of the Bhuka Bhuka Centro Cultural das Mahotas in the Mahotas neighborhood of Maputo. The center is dedicated to promoting reading, literature, and the arts as tools for education, social inclusion, and community development.

Aurélio Furdela serves as the Production Director, while Sangare Okapi acts as the Artistic Director. Although the facility is still preparing for its official inauguration, it has already begun hosting rehearsals and events. Planned activities include creative writing workshops, literary debates, book launches, theater, music, and initiatives to preserve Mozambican languages and cultural heritage.

The center recently hosted the launch of “A Rua Araújo” by author Oro Wa Ka Munguambe, supported by the Carlos Morgado Foundation. This event marks the first book publication associated with the center, signaling its role as a new space for artistic creation and community engagement for children and youth.
