Mozambican literary and cultural preservation initiatives

Overview

Cultural and literary initiatives in Mozambique have focused on community engagement and the preservation of regional identity. In Maputo, writers Aurélio Furdela and Sangare Okapi announced the establishment of the Bhuka Bhuka Centro Cultural das Mahotas in the Mahotas neighborhood. The center aims to use literature and the arts to promote education and social inclusion, having already hosted the launch of the book ‘A Rua Araújo’.

Following this, the ‘Escrever a Zambézia’ movement, led by Almiro Lobo, launched the anthology ‘Almoço à Zambeziana – Escrever a Zambézia, Volume I’ at the BCI auditorium in Maputo. This project seeks to preserve the history, customs, and collective memory of the Zambézia province through the contributions of over thirty collaborators.
