Polish municipalities modernize street lighting with LED technology

Several Polish municipalities are undergoing large-scale street lighting modernizations to replace old sodium lamps with energy-efficient LED technology.

In Bełchatów, the city has secured nearly 5 million PLN from the Provincial Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Łódź. The project involves replacing over 3,500 lighting fixtures and modernizing 199 masts. Mayor Patryk Marjan noted that the transition to LED is expected to reduce electricity costs by up to 50 percent, saving approximately 400,000 PLN annually. The new system will also feature intelligent management via an application to adjust lighting based on weather and visibility.

In Białystok, modernization efforts are continuing in the vicinity of K. Ciołkowskiego and Zaułek Podlaski streets. This phase involves replacing 382 sodium lamps with LED units at a cost of approximately 400,000 PLN. Deputy Mayor Tomasz Klim stated that the LED lights are more environmentally friendly, consume less energy, and are designed to be less disruptive to the circadian rhythms of birds.
