Polish local energy and infrastructure upgrades expand

Overview

Throughout mid-2026, Polish municipalities continued expanding energy-efficiency and infrastructure modernization through EU-backed and institutional grants. In the public building sector, Bytom’s Miechowice district began a 2.3 million PLN renovation of Municipal Preschool No. 44, while rural upgrades progressed in Rymań and Gmina Domaniewice.

Street lighting modernization remains a primary focus. In Milanówek, work is underway on Królewska Street to upgrade to LED solutions co-financed by the Provincial Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (WFOŚiGW). In Białystok, a phase near Ciołkowskiego and Zaułek Podlaskiego streets involves replacing 382 lamps at a cost of approximately 400,000 PLN. Deputy Mayor Tomasz Klim noted these LEDs are more efficient and designed to be less disruptive to the circadian rhythms of birds. Bełchatów has also secured nearly 5 million PLN to replace over 3,500 fixtures, with Mayor Patryk Marjan expecting annual savings of roughly 400,000 PLN through an intelligent management system.

Renewable energy initiatives are also expanding via grants. In the Kowala municipality, an agreement with the Provincial Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Warsaw will fund an 84,255 PLN LED modernization across Rożki, Augustów, and Młodocin Mniejszy, expected to reduce electricity consumption by nearly 43%. Additionally, in Wrocław, the Cichy Kącik Housing Cooperative utilized Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego grants to install solar installations on Tyrmanda Street to provide domestic hot water and reduce CO2 emissions.
