BiblioComunità reading projects expand to seniors in Enna and prisons in Termini Imerese

The Società Dante Alighieri – Comitato di Enna runs a reading, listening and storytelling laboratory titled “Il bastone della saggezza” for elderly residents of the Santa Lucia care home in Enna. The programme, part of the Biblioinsieme project, is coordinated by psychopedagogue Adelia Martorana and supported by the Fondazione Con il Sud and the Ministry of Culture’s Center for Books and Reading. Participants meet twice a month, using a symbolic “wisdom staff” to guide sharing of memories, local stories and literary inspirations.

In parallel, the BiblioComunità – “Dove crescono le storie” project, also funded by the same institutions, is transforming libraries across the province of Palermo into open cultural hubs. A key milestone is the involvement in the Termini Book Festival, where a literary series will be held inside the Termini Imerese prison, bringing authors and debate behind bars. The initiative involves multiple municipalities, the CEIPES ETS agency and local officials, aiming to promote reading among all age groups and community sectors in Sicily.
