Biedronka launches August 2 promotions as Polish discount retailers wage race intensifies

From Monday, 2 August, Biedronka will open its doors with a wave of low‑price offers, including clothing, footwear and small appliances priced from 9.99 zł. The promotion is part of a broader price war on Poland’s discount‑retail market, where chains compete for shopper attention by creating a sense of urgency around weekly flyers and apps.

At the same time, the sector is intensifying competition for staff. Major discount operators such as Biedronka, Lidl, Kaufland and Aldi are raising salaries, with store managers expected to earn up to 7,000 zł gross per month and warehouse workers up to 9,000 zł by 2026. The higher pay packages, bonuses and benefits aim to attract and retain employees amid a tight labour market.

Both the aggressive promotional calendar and the wage hikes illustrate how Polish discount retailers are reshaping consumer habits and employment conditions in a highly competitive environment.
