Polish retail sector sees major promotions and new shopping models

Retailers in Poland are implementing various promotional strategies and testing new operational models. The supermarket chain Biedronka has launched several major discount campaigns, including a 5+5 free offer on sugar, significant price cuts on meat and poultry, and a voucher program where customers spending at least 199 PLN can receive a 35 PLN discount for future use.

Other Biedronka promotions include reduced prices on coffee, such as Jacobs Krönung, and various food items like fruit and dairy. These offers typically require the use of the Moja Biedronka loyalty card or app and are subject to specific purchase limits and timeframes.

In a separate development, the Stokrotka chain is testing a self-service model to allow certain locations to remain open during Sunday trading bans. This model utilizes self-checkout kiosks and security personnel instead of traditional sales staff, though restricted items like alcohol and tobacco are excluded from sale during these periods.

Regarding the broader retail landscape, information regarding the Sunday trading ban in Poland indicates that only a limited number of shopping Sundays remain for 2026, with the next scheduled dates occurring in December.
