German cities close key streets for utility upgrades and construction
The city of Bielefeld will fully close Evenhausener Straße from Tuesday until early August while Stadtwerke performs work on the local supply network, directing motorists along a marked detour (U 1, U 2) and allowing pedestrians and cyclists to cross the site.
Leipzig’s Brandiser Straße is slated for a ten‑week renovation beginning 6 July 2026, with the entire stretch and part of Hirschfelder Straße closed in phases. The project, costing about €1.3 million, includes rerouting bus line 73 and car traffic via surrounding streets and a full closure of the final section in early August.
In Neustadt/WN, the Zacharias‑Frank–Georgstraße–Felixallee intersection reopened on Tuesday after a water‑pipe break delayed works by two days; however, Georgstraße remains closed to traffic until mid‑August for pipe renewal.
Wiesbaden’s Poststraße in the Bierstadt district will be fully blocked from 6 July to 27 July for utility‑line replacement, with an alternative route signed via Raiffeisen‑, Ziegler‑ and Limesstraße.
The Lillengasse in Speyer (Rhineland‑Palatinate) stays shut from 7 am to 5 pm, Monday‑Friday, until 10 July for ThügaNETZE gas‑network modernization, with traffic diverted to Waldseer and Kaiser‑Konrad‑Straße and a limited halt‑ban on Waldseer Straße.
All closures are issued by local authorities who ask motorists for patience and have posted detour signage to minimise disruption.
