Biella and Ascoli expand waste centre hours and launch smart bin system

In the Piedmont province of Biella, the municipal waste authority Co. S. R. A. B. announced that under a new contract the opening hours of the regional Ecocentri will be extended from 6 July 2026. Centres equipped with weighing machines (Biella, Cossato, Mongrando, Pray, Valdilana) will have longer Saturday hours and additional weekday slots, while centres without scales (Cerrione, Viverone) keep six‑hour Saturday openings but will open an hour earlier and close an hour later.

In Ascoli Piceno, a new collection system for non‑recyclable dry waste began operation during the night of Thursday‑Friday, using “smart” bins that open via the health card or an app for condominiums with more than eight households. Initial reports noted bins that would not open and some bags left on the street. The municipal environment assessor Attilio Lattanzi said the city was already clean and described the problems as a normal adjustment phase, promising rapid fixes. The service operator, Ascoli Servizi Comunali, echoed the positive reception and pledged to resolve the technical glitches.
