Poland advances major railway and infrastructure modernization projects

Poland is undergoing extensive infrastructure modernization, with a heavy focus on railway and urban development. A major railway project between Łęczyca and Kutno has been awarded to the Budimex consortium. This 370 million PLN investment aims to increase passenger speeds to 160 km/h and add a second track over a 15-kilometer stretch, potentially reducing travel time between Łódź and Kutno by 12 minutes. Completion is targeted for 2030.

In the Podłęże – Piekiełko project, construction of Poland’s longest railway tunnel (3,875 meters) is underway between Szczyrzyc and Tymbark, utilizing TBM machines named Jadwiga and Kinga. Nationally, discussions continue regarding the Railway Fund, which aims to provide 10 billion PLN annually to support the construction of 1,000 kilometers of new lines over the next decade.

Regional urban projects include tramway upgrades in Toruń, road and roundabout construction in Mrzęzyn and Bielska-Biała, and pedestrian-cyclist path developments in Kraków. Educational and community facilities are also seeing investment, such as the modernization of the Economic-Administrative School on Gajowa Street and the construction of a new student dormitory in Smolajny.
