Big Bear community gathers to memorialize Jackie the bald eagle

The Big Bear community and global fans are gathering for a weekend of commemoration to honor Jackie, a famous bald eagle who died in August at age 14. Jackie and her partner, Shadow, gained international popularity through a 24/7 livestream hosted by the nonprofit Friends of Big Bear Valley (FOBBV).

The “Wings Over Big Bear” event includes a memorial ceremony at Bear Mountain Ski Resort featuring remarks from the U.S. Forest Service, the Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation, and FOBBV. The weekend also features a Wildlife Education Day and the unveiling of local artwork. Fans are participating through in-person attendance and by sending postcards to a dedicated memorial address.
