Akhilesh Yadav urges alliance unity ahead of Uttar Pradesh elections
In preparation for upcoming elections, political alliances in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are facing internal friction over seat sharing and candidate selection.
In Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav has urged alliance partners to prioritize collective victory over the specific number of seats allocated to individual parties. Yadav emphasized that the goal is to ensure a win for the coalition to protect democracy and the constitution. Amidst these discussions, the SP has also implemented significant candidate changes for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council (MLC) elections, replacing previous nominees with new candidates, including Sanjayn Tripathi for the Gorakhpur-Faizabad teacher constituency and Dr. Akash Agarwal for the Agra seat.
In Bihar, the Mahagathbandhan alliance is experiencing tension ahead of the Legislative Council elections. The Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) are set to face off directly in at least four constituencies, including the Patna and Darbhanga graduate and teacher seats. This lack of coordination has drawn criticism from the BJP and JD(U), who claim the opposition bloc lacks a unified strategy and is prioritizing individual party interests over alliance harmony.
