Bihar removes SDM amid Bharat Tiwari encounter probe
The Bihar government has taken administrative action in the Bharat Tiwari encounter case, removing Jagdishpur district magistrate Sanjit Kumar and attaching him to the Patna headquarters following directions from Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary. A judicial inquiry commission chaired by retired Justice Vinod Kumar Sinha is gathering statements, including from the family of the deceased Bharat Bhushan Tiwari, who allege a fake encounter and seek action against police officers.
On July 26, Pappu Yadav, MP from Purnia, visited Bhojpur and criticised opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav for remaining silent on the matter. Yadav pledged financial help to the Tiwari family, said the case has attracted attention beyond Bihar, and warned he will raise it in Parliament and, if needed, before the Supreme Court. He called for accountability of officials involved in the encounter.
