Bihar Resident Identified as Mastermind in Maharashtra TET 2026 Paper Leak
Police in Maharashtra uncovered a leak of the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026 question papers, seizing four sets and postponing the exam slated for June 28, which affected more than 600,000 candidates. Three suspects were arrested – two from Bihar and one from Haryana – while a fourth accused, identified as Bijender (Bijendra) Gupta, a resident of Samastipur, Bihar, remains at large and is described as the mastermind of an alleged multi‑state paper‑leak racket.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by senior police officers was formed to probe the case, expanding the investigation beyond Maharashtra after evidence of an interstate network. Authorities allege the scheme aimed to sell the papers for roughly Rs 1.5 crore. The Maharashtra State Council of Examinations postponed the TET, and the state government has indicated possible action under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act.
The leak has prompted political fallout, with the Mumbai Youth Congress staging a protest demanding the resignation of the state school education minister. The incident highlights recurring concerns over exam security in India, recalling earlier leaks such as the 2024 NEET scandal linked to the same alleged orchestrator.
