Bihar weather: Orange and yellow alerts issued for 19 districts

The Meteorological Department has issued weather alerts for 19 districts in Bihar, warning of rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds. An orange alert has been declared for Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Saharsa, Madhepura, Purnea, and Katihar, where heavy rainfall and winds of 30–40 kmph are expected.

A yellow alert covers 12 other districts, including Sitamarhi, Muzaffarpur, and Bhagalpur, with forecasts for light to moderate rain. Unsettled weather is expected to persist for at least three days, with increased rainfall activity predicted for northeastern and eastern Bihar on August 21.

While Bihar has recorded 39 per cent less rainfall than normal so far this season, the active monsoon and upcoming precipitation are expected to help reduce the state’s rainfall deficit. Residents are advised to stay indoors and avoid open fields during thunderstorms.
