Bilbao leads surge in flight searches for August 12 solar eclipse

A Kayak analysis shows German flight searches for locations where the total solar eclipse on 12 August will be visible have risen sharply.

Bilbao tops the list with an 85 % increase in searches and average fares up 33 % to €384, although the total eclipse there lasts only about half a minute.

Madrid follows with a 56 % jump in searches and a 35 % price rise to €273, but only a partial eclipse is visible from the capital.

Reykjavik became the most expensive option, with prices climbing 21 % to €538. Valencia and Iceland offer a longer total phase of the eclipse. Mallorca provides the longest total eclipse (up to 1.5 minutes) with modest price changes, while Barcelona’s fares stayed roughly flat and Porto saw a 9 % increase to €333.
