Bildu and PNV unite on Basque sovereignty, reject corruption as political tool

Bildu spokesperson Mertxe Aizpurua said corruption investigations involving the PSOE should not be used as an excuse to open the way for a PP‑Vox government. She called for housing measures to be included in the decree‑law the government plans to adopt on 29 April to mitigate the economic impact of the Iran‑US‑Israel conflict, and noted that budget talks for 2027 are ongoing. Aizpurua warned that failure to pass the budget could lead to the dissolution of the Cortes.

In a joint appearance in Gernika, mayors from the Basque nationalist parties Bildu and the PNV signed a manifesto reaffirming the right to decide and the “full sovereignty” of Euskadi. The document commemorates the 150th anniversary of the abolition of the historic fueros and calls for the restoration of Basque historic rights, greater political power for municipalities, and a stronger role in issues such as the economy, energy transition, migration and European integration. A ceremony is planned for 19 July in Bergara.
