Billie Eilish debuts in film adaptation of “The Bell Jar” in Toronto
Singer‑songwriter Billie Eilish, 24, was photographed on the set of her first major film role in Toronto. She will portray Esther Greenwood, the 19‑year‑old Boston student at the centre of Sylvie Plath’s novel *The Bell Jar*, in a screen adaptation directed by Sarah Polley.
On the set Eilish appeared almost unrecognisable, wearing a yellow patterned dress over a large green fleece, a light‑blue shirt with rolled‑up sleeves and black boots. The film follows Greenwood’s descent into depression, a suicide attempt and hospitalization after a prestigious magazine internship in 1953.
The cast also includes Oscar‑winner Carey Mulligan as Esther’s mother and actor Connor Storrie. Polley, known for *Women Talking* and *Stories We Tell*, is directing her fifth feature‑length film. The production is taking place in Toronto, Canada.
