Billie Eilish stars in Focus Features' 'The Bell Jar' film with Carey Mulligan

Billie Eilish will make her feature‑film acting debut as Esther Greenwood in Focus Features' adaptation of Sylvia Plath’s 1963 novel The Bell Jar. The semi‑autobiographical story follows a gifted young woman whose life unravels under the pressure of mental illness and societal expectations.

The film is being directed by Oscar‑winning filmmaker Sarah Polley and produced by Plan B, Studiocanal and Joy Coalition, with Focus Features providing backing. Carey Mulligan has been cast as Mrs. Greenwood, Esther’s mother. Production details, additional casting and a release date have not yet been announced.
