Billy Gunn reflects on AEW backstage brawl and Triple H remarks

Professional wrestler and AEW coach Billy Gunn has shared his reflections on two major industry incidents involving backstage conflict and public remarks.

Regarding the 2022 AEW All Out backstage altercation involving CM Punk and The Elite, Gunn noted that while he was not present, the incident highlighted the risks of younger talent provoking experienced veterans. He suggested that “if you’re a young buckaroo and you want to poke the bear, get ready to get bit.” Gunn contrasted modern locker room management with the era of Vince McMahon in WWE, stating that McMahon maintained control by ensuring talent handled disputes privately behind closed doors to prioritize business over personal feelings.

Additionally, Gunn revisited Triple H’s 2019 comment during the D-Generation X WWE Hall of Fame induction, where Triple H referred to AEW as a “piss-ant company.” Gunn described the remark as “a dick move” and an attempt to “save face,” noting that he had expected such a response given the competitive landscape at the time. He credited AEW executive Tony Khan for allowing him to attend the ceremony despite his affiliation with the rival promotion.
