Billy Joel provides health update following brain surgery

Singer Billy Joel, 77, has provided a health update regarding his recent brain surgery for normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH). Speaking on his SiriusXM program, ‘The Billy Joel Channel’, the musician reassured fans that his condition ‘sounds much worse than it actually is’ and stated, ‘I am fine.’

NPH is a condition involving the accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the skull, which exerts pressure on the brain. To treat the condition, Joel underwent surgery to have a shunt implanted to drain the excess fluid. He noted that while the procedure was initially daunting, he consented to avoid potential cognitive decline.

Joel admitted to experiencing some lingering symptoms, including impaired balance and slight hearing loss. He suggested that his hearing issues might be attributed to age and a lifetime of loud music. He emphasized that he does not want his followers to worry about his health.
