Overview

Singer Billy Joel underwent brain surgery to treat normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a condition characterized by the buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain. Following the implantation of a shunt, Joel reported improvements in his memory, balance, and general functioning. He noted that doctors cautioned him that performing loud rock music might have caused effects similar to repeated concussions.

In response to his absence, the Billy Joel Band announced a tribute concert titled ‘The Music of Billy Joel featuring The Billy Joel Band,’ scheduled for December 5 in Atlantic City.
