Biman Bangladesh Airlines to acquire 14 Boeing aircraft in $3.7 billion deal

Biman Bangladesh Airlines is set to acquire 14 new Boeing aircraft in a deal valued at approximately $3.7 billion. The proposed fleet includes eight Boeing 787-10s, two 787-9s, and four 737-8s, with deliveries expected to occur between 2031 and 2035.

European Union Ambassador Michael Miller has called on the Bangladeshi government to ensure a level playing field in the procurement process, urging that decisions be made based on “commercial merit.” While the interim government has moved toward Boeing, Airbus has reportedly submitted a fresh proposal for 10 aircraft which Biman is evaluating.

The massive investment has sparked debate regarding Bangladesh’s current economic pressures versus the long-term goal of developing a global aviation hub. Proponents argue that early investment secures aircraft against future inflation and supply chain volatility, aiming to position the national carrier for the market landscape of the 2030s.
