Biodun Oyebanji Re‑elected Governor of Ekiti State
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared APC candidate Biodun Oyebanji the winner of the Ekiti State governorship election, recording 319,224 votes. His closest rivals, PDP’s Oluyede and ADC’s Dare Bejide, received about 40,543 and 12,872 votes respectively, giving Oyebanji a landslide victory across all 16 local government areas and making him the first governor in Ekiti’s history to win back‑to‑back re‑election.
President Bola Tinubu, APC leaders and former Ekiti governors (including Kayode Fayemi and Kayode Fayemi) congratulated him, praising the peaceful conduct of the vote, the security forces, and the governor’s development record in infrastructure, agriculture, education, health and rural development. Party figures such as Uba Sani, Sheriff Oborevwori and the APC campaign council also hailed the result as a clear endorsement of continuity and the “Renewed Hope” agenda.
The governor responded to criticism on social media, emphasizing that electoral success is decided at polling units, not online, and pledged to deepen development, expand programs to every household and maintain peace and cooperation. The Nigeria Police Force defended officers photographed at a polling unit, urging anyone with evidence of misconduct to come forward. Overall, the election was described as largely peaceful, with INEC reporting over 384,000 accredited voters and a high turnout despite isolated technical and logistical challenges.
