Nigeria 2027 campaign – endorsements, disputes & elections

Overview

President Bola Tinubu promoted his Renewed Hope agenda, commissioning Karsana West arterial roads on 4 July 2026 and sealing a $2 billion Mastercard deal the next day. On 10 July Edo Governor reported a peaceful local‑government election with high turnout and few incidents. The following day Tinubu, represented by Kaduna Governor Uba Sani, attended the West African Horse Racing Derby final, announced a Sports Infrastructure Development Fund and highlighted gender‑inclusion with female jockeys. Kano Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf endorsed Tinubu’s 2027 presidential bid, urging unity and economic progress. In Ebonyi civil‑society groups warned of a missed World Bank target that cost $27 million, demanding fiscal transparency. The Ezza Ezekuna Youth Assembly first backed PDP candidate Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma‑Odii, who later denied cyber‑bullying accusations and stressed his philanthropy; another youth group shifted support to incumbent Governor Francis Nwifuru. On 14 July Osun’s Muslim community praised Governor Ademola Adeleke for averting bloodshed in the Ikirun Obaship dispute, advancing road work, approving a state‑house mosque, nearing completion of the Hajj camp and formalising Islamic marriage certificates. Benue Governor Hyacinth Alia condemned recent herdsmen attacks in Akpachi Village and Otukpo‑Nobi, ordering tighter patrols and regional coordination. On 19 July Adeleke ordered urgent repair of the deteriorating Olaiya Bridge in Osogbo before the Okefia Flyover commissioning, while the Allied Peoples Movement urged a review of the ₦130 billion Ede International Airport contract. Later that day, a press conference by the Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru Youth Movement in Abuja saw Ebonyi leaders publicly support President Tinubu and Governor Nwifuru, citing projects like the Enugu‑Port Harcourt corridor and the appointment of Ebonyi‑born Dave Umahi as Minister of Works.
