Bioenergy experts advocate for biodiesel and biomethane expansion in Brazil

Industry experts and executives are advocating for the expansion of biofuels to accelerate Brazil's energy transition. During the 32nd Fenasucro & Agrocana event, Binatural, a major biodiesel producer, highlighted the immediate potential of biodiesel in sectors such as maritime transport, railways, and thermoelectric power generation. The company noted that the Brazilian industry already possesses the necessary scale, technology, and raw materials to contribute significantly to decarbonization efforts.

In a parallel discussion regarding biomethane, Ildo Sauer, a professor at the University of São Paulo, emphasized the need for regulatory flexibility to unlock the sector's full potential. While recent updates from the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) have improved quality control standards and allowed for specific technical exceptions in gas pipeline injection, further regulatory easing is considered necessary to support the circular economy, urban mobility, and fertilizer production.
