Biological mechanisms and nutrition influence hunger and obesity
Medical experts warn that persistent hunger, even after eating, can be a biological symptom of obesity rather than a lack of discipline. At a recent health conference, Dr. Ajda Urbas, an internal medicine specialist from Koper, explained that obesity can involve impaired satiety mechanisms. A primary factor is leptin resistance, where the brain fails to properly receive signals from the hormone leptin—produced by fat tissue—that indicate the body has sufficient energy stores.
Factors such as genetics, hormones, and environment also influence appetite and food cravings. To manage hunger and promote satiety, nutritional experts suggest consuming combinations of proteins, healthy fats, and fiber. For example, Greek yogurt paired with walnuts and berries can provide a balanced snack that aids in longer-lasting fullness due to its high protein content and slow digestion.
