Brazil identified as fast-growing global biomethane market
An international study commissioned by the MBCBrasil Institute, titled ‘From Waste to Wheels – Turning organic waste into renewable fuel for transport’, identifies Brazil as one of the world’s fastest-growing markets for biomethane. The country joins other rapidly expanding markets including the United States, China, India, and Spain.
Biomethane, produced from urban waste, sewage, and animal waste, has the potential to meet approximately 25% of the global natural gas demand, reaching an estimated one trillion cubic meters annually. While markets like Sweden, Germany, and the United States (specifically California) are already consolidated, Brazil is noted for its significant scale and potential to lead in the supply of integrated engineering and technological solutions for decarbonization.
In the private sector, companies like Binatural are already integrating pure biodiesel (B100) into logistics operations to reduce CO2 emissions. Such initiatives aim to demonstrate the viability of biofuels in various sectors, including stationary applications like generators and data centers.
