BioNTech reports promising lung cancer survival data

BioNTech has reported promising Phase 3 clinical trial data for its experimental antibody, Gotistobart, which targets metastatic squamous non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). In the study, patients receiving Gotistobart achieved a median overall survival of 18.5 months, nearly doubling the 10-month median survival observed in the control group receiving standard Docetaxel chemotherapy.

Developed in collaboration with U.S.-based OncoC4, the antibody works by targeting the CTLA-4 immune receptor to reduce regulatory T-cells that suppress the body’s immune response against tumors. While the results are significant for a patient group with limited options, the drug still requires successful completion of the ongoing second part of the Phase 3 study to secure regulatory approval.

These developments come as BioNTech seeks to diversify its oncology pipeline following the recent cancellation of a colorectal cancer vaccine trial. Financial analysts from institutions including UBS, Jefferies, and Berenberg have responded positively to the lung cancer data, with some raising price targets for the company's stock.
