Biotech sectors receive significant R&D and commercialization funding in UK and Denmark

Innovate UK has launched the third round of the Engineering Biology Collaborative R&D competition, offering £8.5 million in funding to help UK businesses scale engineering biology into commercial products, processes, and services. To be eligible to lead, an organization must be a UK-registered business. The program focuses on industrial research and requires a clear route to high-volume production within the UK, including at least one named end user in the consortium.

In Denmark, the BioInnovation Institute (BII) has allocated €7.8 million to six companies to accelerate the commercialization of technologies in healthcare, agriculture, and sustainable energy. Each company received €1.3 million, bringing their total funding from BII to €1.8 million. The recipients include PanTarg, focusing on cancer treatments; 3Sonic, developing AI-powered ultrasound; Inia Biosciences, targeting inflammatory diseases; Yngvi Bio, working on biological pest control; Proxi Biotech, developing vaccine-based immunotherapies; and Sagava, which converts waste into biogenic fuels.
