Birmingham activates cooling stations amid extreme heat

The City of Birmingham has activated multiple cooling stations to provide relief as temperatures reach 95 degrees or higher. The initiative aims to mitigate the risk of life-threatening heat-related illnesses by offering air-conditioned spaces, hydration, and safety for vulnerable populations, including older adults, families without air conditioning, and individuals experiencing homelessness.

Cooling locations are distributed across every quadrant of the city. Participating sites include various branches of the Birmingham Public Library, recreation centers, and community organizations such as Faith Chapel Care Center and One Roof. Officials are encouraging residents to monitor elderly neighbors and friends and to seek medical attention immediately if symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke appear.
