Birmingham Council Rolls Out New Park Safety Rules and Security Upgrades

Birmingham City Council has issued a reminder that fires and barbecues are banned in all public parks during the current heatwave and has reiterated water‑safety guidance, warning visitors not to swim in open water and to extinguish cigarettes. The council said, "Please remember you cannot have a personal fire or barbecue in a public park or green open space."

The authority also disclosed that unauthorised encampments across Birmingham parks cost about £130,000 between April and June – £72,770 for enforcement and £60,000 for clean‑up and repairs. It pledged a capital investment to install physical security improvements in 32 frequently targeted parks, including strengthened boundaries and enhanced access controls, with works to begin in the coming months.
