Bisceglie parents protest school meals ending in May while school runs until June
The activist group Spazio Civico has highlighted that in Bisceglie the public school‑age nursery programme continues until 30 June, but the municipal school‑meal service stops on 31 May. This creates a gap in June (and again in September) that forces families to pick up children early, arrange paid babysitting or rely on grandparents. The movement argues the municipality should extend the lunch service to match the school calendar, as private schools already do, and is urging the mayor and council to amend the catering contract or otherwise guarantee meals for the full school year.
The complaint stresses that the current arrangement disproportionately affects working parents, increases household expenses and limits choice of public versus private nursery schools.
