Donegal community mourns sudden deaths of James and Noreen McHugh
The joint funeral of James and Noreen McHugh took place at Saint Carthas Church in Kilcar, County Donegal, following their sudden deaths. James McHugh was a prominent figure in the community, recognized as an All-Star footballer and a member of the Donegal team that won its first All-Ireland championship in 1992.
Noreen McHugh was highly regarded for her twenty years of service as the secretary of the local parish school. Bishop Niall Coll of the Diocese of Raphoe expressed deep sorrow over the couple's passing, stating that their deaths have “cast a dark cloud over the entire diocese, county and beyond.”
A guard of honour, including members of the 1992 championship team and current players, was formed outside the church to honor James McHugh. The service was attended by a large number of mourners from the local community and the GAA club.
