Bistrița driver arrested after hitting 71‑year‑old woman on sidewalk while intoxicated

On 11 July, police in Bistrița responded to an accident on Tarpiului Street after a vehicle lost control and struck a 71‑year‑old woman walking on the sidewalk. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment. The driver, a 31‑year‑old man from Bistrița, fled the scene but was later located and detained by officers. A breath‑alcohol test showed a level of 0.78 mg/L, and biological samples were collected for further analysis. Authorities are investigating the case as a criminal offense involving bodily injury, leaving the scene of an accident, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
