Bitcoin enters October with strong ETF inflows and seasonal momentum
Bitcoin has shown significant market activity as it enters October, a month historically known in the crypto community as ‘Uptober’ due to its high frequency of positive returns. Bitcoin closed September with an 8% gain, reaching levels near $83,600 and briefly testing $87,000. This performance follows a period of volatility influenced by U.S. macroeconomic data, including a soft jobs report and inflation figures that have shaped expectations regarding Federal Reserve interest rate policies.
U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have been a primary driver of demand. In September, these funds saw substantial net inflows, contributing to total assets under management exceeding $100 billion. While the funds experienced a brief period of outflows at the very end of September, they began October with renewed momentum, recording over $134 million in net inflows during the first few days of the month. BlackRock’s IBIT and Fidelity’s FBTC remain leading products in terms of volume and flow.
Market analysts note that while technical resistance sits around $87,400, the combination of favorable seasonality and institutional interest via regulated ETF wrappers provides a constructive backdrop for the fourth quarter. However, experts caution that the path may involve consolidations and corrections rather than a strictly linear ascent.
