Bitcoin price outlook: volatility and institutional demand
Overview
Bitcoin has entered a period of consolidation, trading within a range between $76,000 and $82,000. While institutional demand previously drove a three-week streak of $3.8 billion in net inflows to US spot Bitcoin ETFs, recent data shows a significant reversal. In the week ending September 11, Bitcoin ETFs recorded approximately $462.7 million in net outflows, ending the previous inflow streak. The largest single-day withdrawal occurred on a Thursday, with $282.6 million leaving the funds, while the ARK 21Shares Bitcoin ETF saw the most substantial weekly loss at $234.2 million.
This shift highlights a growing divergence in the crypto ETF market. While Bitcoin saw outflows, US spot Ether ETFs attracted nearly $197 million in net inflows over the same period, led by BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust ETF. Additionally, BlackRock’s ETHB staking ETF recorded $307.72 million in inflows over a 20-day period ending September 11. Despite these outflows, Morgan Stanley’s MSBT fund bucked the trend with $19.7 million in inflows.
Technical analysis suggests potential volatility as Bitcoin forms a rounded-top pattern on its four-hour chart following a rally from $63,000. Analysts identify key support levels between $76,000 and $76,300; a breakdown below this could trigger a correction toward the $70,000 to $71,000 range. Conversely, a bullish breakout would require the price to break and maintain a close above $82,300. Market participants are also monitoring the U.S. Senate’s potential consideration of a cloture motion on the CLARITY Act on September 15.
