Bitcoin Pharaoh film begins production in Rio de Janeiro

Filming has commenced in Rio de Janeiro for ‘O Faraó dos Bitcoins’, a feature film chronicling one of Brazil’s largest financial frauds. Directed by Sergio Rezende, the movie is based on the book ‘Queda Livre’ by journalists Isabela Palmeira and Chico Otávio.

The plot follows the rise and fall of Glaidson Acácio dos Santos, known as the ‘Bitcoin Pharaoh,’ and his wife, Mirelis Diaz. Together, they allegedly led GAS Consultoria e Tecnologia, a massive financial pyramid scheme disguised as cryptocurrency investments. The scheme reportedly moved approximately R$ 38 billion and affected over 300,000 people.

Christian Malheiros will portray Glaidson, while Lorena Comparato will play Mirelis. The cast also includes Luana Piovani. Produced by Morena Filmes in co-production with Paris Entretenimento, the film is slated for release in the second half of 2027.
