GAS Consultoria cryptocurrency fraud investigation

Overview

Glaidson Acácio dos Santos, known as the ‘Bitcoin Pharaoh,’ has admitted in court testimony to acting as a ‘whale’ to manipulate cryptocurrency prices. Operating through GAS Consultoria, the scheme allegedly moved over R$ 38 billion and impacted a large number of victims through a pyramid structure that used new deposits to pay older investors.

Acácio and his wife, Mirelis Yoseline Diaz Zerpa, face accusations of leading a criminal organization that promised above-market returns to various investors. While authorities have seized digital assets, including a ‘cold wallet’ containing significant funds, creditors are currently seeking nearly R$ 3 billion in court.

The scale of the fraud has led to cultural interest, with production beginning in Rio de Janeiro for a feature film titled ‘O Faraó dos Bitcoins.’ Directed by Sergio Rezende and based on the book ‘Queda Livre,’ the film will chronicle the rise and fall of the couple and their alleged financial pyramid scheme.
