Bitcoin falls below $63,000 amid Fed concerns and Middle East tension

On July 31 Bitcoin slipped below the $63,000 psychological level, trading around $62,900‑$62,400 and losing roughly 3 % in 24 hours. The drop erased about $100 million of long positions and contributed to a $360 million wipe‑out of leveraged bets. Crypto market capitalisation fell from about $1.3 trillion to $1.26 trillion.

The move was linked to several macro factors. Three Federal Reserve board members voted to raise interest rates at the July meeting, and the Fed left policy rates unchanged, dampening risk appetite. Coinbase reported an earnings miss, sending its shares down more than 10 %. At the same time, the odds of the U.S. Senate passing the proposed Clarity Act fell to roughly 30 %, removing a potential regulatory catalyst.

Geopolitical stress added further pressure. Iran attacked two oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and launched drones toward U.S.-linked facilities, heightening concerns about energy supplies and broader market stability. Spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded net outflows of $61.5 million after a prior inflow streak, and the broader crypto market saw a shift toward defensive positioning.
